THE FIRM: Located in Gold River, Calif., (a suburb of Sacramento), Chang, Ruthenberg & Long LLC is an employee benefits boutique, with three partners and three associates. It's a Mac shop, except for a single, custom-built Intel Pentium II 333 MHz computer that is used to access Westlaw and LEXIS/NEXIS. The partners share one Mac G3 Powerbook laptop. At the office, lawyers have e-mail, but no browser access to the Internet. From outside the office, they access calendars and e-mail using Apple Remote Access software. Other software: Now Up to Date, Microsoft Office 98, and Legal Master.

TECH TREND: Integration. The ability to manage client data, work product, and for inventory management to be online and accessible at all times, so productivity goes through the roof.
