308 Systems Debuts
New Tactical System
Hermosa Beach, Calif.-based 308 Systems has introduced its portable integrated office/communications system, called the Tactical Communications Package.

It is a battery powered, modular system that includes a Pentium laptop computer, cellular phone data line, color printer, copier, fax, and a sleek brushed aluminum carry case. Optional components such as a digital video camera, document scanner, mapping and Global Positioning System, Geographic Information System, satellite telephone, and fingerprint identification are available.

Santa Clara, Calif.-based Fujitsu PC Corp. has introduced its rugged PenCentra 200 handheld computer.
It offers a 129 MHz Toshiba TX3922 MIOS RISC processor, and 32 MB or RAM (expandable to 64 MB). The unit weighs two pounds, and measures 1.3 x 6.5 x 8.9 inches. It features an eight-inch VGA color display, a 56K modem, USB interface, two Type II PC Card slots, and handwriting-recognition software

SkipWire has released its free Palm OS software, DownStream. It provides Palm users with the ability to wirelessly browse and download Palm applications by subject and title. It also stores downloaded or stored applications in a "MySkipWire" account.

Panasonic's ipalm Digital Cameras PV-DC3000-A and PV-DC3010 both include an SD Memory card.The card, which is the size of a postage stamp, was developed by Matsushita Electric in collaboration with SanDisk Corp.
Each camera has a built-in 1.5 inch color LCD viewer, and uses a .55-inch charged coupled device (CCD) to capture 2,048 x 1,536-pixel resolution images in super fine, fine, and TIFF modes.They are equipped with a 2x optical zoom for for close-up shots, and a 3x digital zoom. The PV-DC3000-A includes a 16 MB SD Memory card, while the PV-DC3010 includes a 32 MB Memory card

PalmGear.com has released its full-VGA eyemodule2 Digital Camera for Handspring Visor handheld computers.
Designed to snap into the Visor handheld via its "Springboard" expansion slot, it captures and views digital images in color or black and white in a variety of formats. Eyecontact software helps users to categorize, and annotate images and mini-movies that can be beamed to other Visor/Palm OS devices, or synchronized to PC or Macs.

The Panasonic Consumer Electronics Co. has introduced its new line of Palmcorder combination digital camcorder/digital still camera. Three models offer digital 12-bit/16-bit stereo audio recording, 20x high definition optical zoom, and 300x telescopic digital zoom. Other features include digital electronic image stabilization in both record and playback modes, high-speed shutter, and a variety of built-in digital video special effects for adding creative flair to video recordings.

The VPL-CS2 is Sony's "SuperLite" LCD projector, reports Sony Electronics Inc. It weighs six pounds six ounces, and offers 600 ANSI lumens.
It features digital keystone correction, multi-scan capability, enough brightness to display images with the lights on, and Projector Station software. It also includes a remote control, and carrying case.
The VPL-CS2 offers a resolution of 800 x 600 and measures 11 x 3.1 x 8.5 inches.

VirusBarrier 1.0 for the Palm OS, from Integro, is software that scans, detects, and deletes virus infected files to ensure that they do not propagate. It runs on all Palm OS compatible devices including Palm, Handspring, IBM and others.

Israel's MobiMate has introduced WorldMate software for your Palm organizer, which offers a host of "conversion" tools for world travelers. It includes four world clocks to compare to the your home time; and converts foreign currencies with the option for the user to check updated rates online. It can convert measurements; compare clothes sizes from the U.S., U.K., and Europe; and find international dialing prefixes.
It even includes an alarm clock with "snooze" feature.
