CrossPad: Bridge From Paper to PC
Now, even the most technophobic senior partners can use legal technology.
THE LEGAL pad--that ubiquitous symbol of law practice--may be in for an electronic makeover with the introduction of the CrossPad by the Cross Pen Computing Group, a division of Lincoln, R.I.'s A.T. Cross Co.
The company says that the CrossPad, scheduled for April release, is a breakthrough product enabling lawyers to write in ink on standard paper while simultaneously capturing their handwriting electronically. Handwriting can then be transferred directly to the PC, Cross says, where it can be filed, reorganized, faxed, e-mailed or printed in handwritten form or converted to ASCII text.
Using a special electronic pen and pad designed by Cross and technology from IBM Research, CrossPad users take notes in ink on standard paper, Cross explains. The pen emits a signal that is transferred through the paper and captured on an "electronic page," which can be "turned" by pressing a button every time the paper page is turned.
