Backpack Includes Sound With a Player

MICRO SOLUTIONS has introduced its a plug-and-place quad-speed Backpack CD-ROM drive with 16-bit built-in sound for desktop or portable computers. The new unit features a front-loading motorized tray and does not require a caddy. It comes bundled with software that includes audio applications and device drivers for DOS and Windows.

The drive, Micro Solutions reports, automatically recognizes Enhanced Parallel Ports (EPP) and IEEE 1284 ports for faster data transfers. The drive is also MPC 2-compliant while running on an EPP port, which permits access to thousands of multimedia applications, according to the company.

The unit comes with line and auxiliary input, microphone jacks, line and speaker output jacks and is photo CD-compatible.

The unit is compatible with Windows 95, and with all IBM PCs, compatibles and portables, according to the DeKalb, Ill.-based company.
