PowerLaw for Windows Combines Case and Practice Functions

LAWYERS looking for an all-in-one program offering case, practice and document management along with document assembly features can now consider PowerLaw for Windows 1.0 from PowerLaw Systems, Inc. of Chicago. The program offers full document management and assembly functions, a complete contact manager, a rule-based docket/diary/calendar, conflicts checking, party Rolodex, and customized reports, according to the company.

The document management system is said to offer seamless integration with both Microsoft Word and WordPerfect word processing systems. Users can transfer into their word processor to create a new document or merge from the existing merge library. Saved documents can be assigned long file names, and the document profile is completely searchable. When a document is found, the system provides the number of hits for the document, thereby creating a relevance ranking, the company adds.

The document assembly function operates from a library of boilerplate merge documents. A pop-up merge code list eases the insertion of merge codes. Using the system, a lawyer can select a merge document, such as a standard interrogatory, and save the new document under a particular case name. The program's diary will reflect the date the interrogatories were generated and will automatically insert a reminder in the attorney's diary to check on the interrogatories in 30 days, the company explains.
