MI3MS Converts Texts to Searchable Databases

MINOLTA Corporation's Business Products Group of Ramsey, N.J., has unveiled two image and information management products:

MI3MS 3000 Version 3.1 image and information management system, according to the firm, now supports the company's MS 3000 Microfilm scanner. This tool provides users with the capability to convert analog film images into electronic images. Once converted, the images can be displayed, printed, stored on optical disk or distributed on a network. Version 3.1 also supports Minolta's PS 3000 Publication Scanner. This combination was created, in part, for law libraries, the company notes.

Using these two tools together, information in bound volumes can be scanned and digitized. Once in digital form, the images can be processed through OCR and exported to a text search engine, thereby making the information more accessible.

MI3MS Plus is a high-end version of the system described above. It is designed primarily for Windows NT 32-bit operating environments, and is certified for Novell NetWare 4.1. The system, according to Minolta, meets the requirements of large, networked enterprise imaging applications.

The Plus version includes DocRoute Workflow, Windows-based software that is said to provide a seamless work flow application with intelligent routing, e-mail notification and status tracking.
