WEKA PUBLISHING of Shelton, Conn., has released the UNIX Companion, a comprehensive reference manual for UNIX system administrators. Among the topics included in the manual are: hardware, programming, networking and the Internet, security, installing upgrades, and using applications.
The manual highlights technical issues, such as connecting networks, DES encryption, and writing shell scripts. The manual includes flowcharts, diagrams and checklists to help administrators troubleshoot hardware, speed up disk and file access and maintain data integrity. The manual includes a disk containing shell scripts, diagnostic programs and utilities.
