Encryption Process Eased by ViaCrypt

VIACRYPT has announced the introduction of enhancements to its personal and business message and file privacy software products. The new versions are:

ViaCrypt PGP/PE version 4.0 is designed for individuals seeking to protect messages and files through cryptography. The new version uses the clipboard to simplify the encryption process, the publisher reports. Usable from any text-based application such as a mail program or word processor, the new "Enclyptor" feature allows the file system to be avoided. Once text is entered in a mail program, for example, the user simply selects the text, cuts it to the clipboard, encrypts the message, and then pastes the result back to the mail program. The program is available for Windows and Macintosh users.

ViaCrypt PGP/BE version 4.0 is targeted for firms, and, in addition to the features mentioned above, allows a firm to optionally decrypt all messages either sent or received by an individual employed by the firm. This option is accomplished by automatic encryption of all outgoing messages under a Corporate Access Key, and only by permitting an individual to use decryption keys that are certified and known to the firm.

Additionally, the company reports, the firm has the ability to "retire" a certification previously authorized. This feature, when used in connection with Signature Keys, allows a digital signature to carry the same implication on an electronic message as a handwritten signature and title on a law firm's letterhead does for written communication. This software is available for Windows, Macintosh and UNIX users.
