
JONES FUTUREX, Inc. has announced the availability of two modems that function like an ordinary V.32 bis modem, except that their data encryption technologies are used to provide secure data transmission through the modem. SentryModem 144 (above) and SentryModem 144i are designed for lawyers working from remote locations, whether traveling on behalf of a client or working at home after work hours, and who require access dial-in protection or secure modem communications.
Both products use DES, Triple DES, and JFX E2 encryption technologies to encrypt data that is in transit; both also provide a transparent access control firewall for servers, according to the Rocklin, Calif. company. SentryModem144 is an encrypting modem with operating speed up to 14.4 kpbs, and offers DES and proprietary encryption algorithms. SentryModem 144i adds an exportable proprietary encryption algorithm
