Phone, 'Net via One Device

NOKIA Mobile Phones Inc.'s new 9000il Communicator not only functions as a telephone, fax and as a handy way to access the Internet, but also can be used by mobile lawyers to track time-and-billing, reports Nokia, based in Tampa, Fla.

The 9000il Communicator's features include a GMS 1900 digital wireless phone; financial calculator; personal organizer with calendar; a built-in fax machine; and more, says Nokia. It can send and receive e-mails and short text messages, Nokia advises.

The Communicator uses the GEOS 3.0 operating system and offers a diverse package of third-party software, including IntelliSynch, says Nokia. Newly available is MobileTime Billing, from Wireless Verticals Inc of Austin, Texas, which provides powerful time and billing capabilities which are tracked directly into the Communicator, reports Wireless.

The software includes flexible report options; client/matter databases and links; clocks; and allows users to process multiple currencies, says Wireless. MobileTimeBilling can be purchased separately or preinstalled on the Communicator, it says.

dtSearch 5.1 Adds Hypertext Linking

DT SOFTWARE's new dtSearch 5.1 is the latest edition of its 32-bit "industrial strength" text retrieval software for
Windows 95/98/NT, says the Arlington, Va. based company.

The upgrade provides "point and click" access to a full range of search options, including natural language, says DT. The software offers fuzzy searches and adjusts for typographical errors and synonyms, says DT.

It can search word processing programs, databases, spreadsheets, HTML, and other files, says DT.

New features include hypertext linking, which allows users to double-click a word, or a block of words, to initiate a new search, DT advises.
