Clifford Schnier Joins F.Y.I. Inc.
F. Y. I. Inc., based in Tucson, has appointed Clifford Schnier as its national director of sales and marketing for Researchers, its division that offers automated litigation support for the legal profession. It provides imaging, printing, coding, microfilming, data and image conversion, OCR, consulting and repository services through processing centers located in the U.S. and offshore on St. Vincent island.
Schnier, a frequent contributor to Law Technology News, spent 11 years in Toronto, where he was a trial lawyer focusing on complex commercial matters, before relocating to Arizona. In 1986, Schnier became a litigation support consultant, and then started LegalCode Inc., based in Scottsdale. (It was subsequently acquired by IKON Digital Litigation Services.)
Despina Kartson has been appointed as vice president of strategic solutions at Bowne Business Solutions. The new position is designed to lead BBS's efforts within its outsourcing business, the company explains. She will focus on desktop publishing, legal word processing, information technology and office document management services.
Kartson will be based in Bowne's New York corporate headquarters. She most recently served as vice president of practice services/new product development for Uniscribe, and previously was assistant director of I.T. at Cravath, Swain & Moore.
Stephany Toman has been promoted to director of public relations at Albuqerque's ProLaw Software. She will now serve as the company's full-time media contact and direct all of ProLaw's public relations programs.
Stuart Meyer has been named marketing and member services director for the American Bar Associations Law Practice Management section. He received a degree in political science from the University of Kentucky, and has worked in marketing, media and public relations, and on political campaigns.
Lela Laurent as been hired as vice president for the central region of Electronic Evidence Discovery Inc. She will be based in the Chicago area. Laurent is the immediate past president of the Chicago Association of Litigation Support Managers.
Laurent previously worked for Katten Muchin Zavis, in its information services department, and at Kirkland & Ellis, and Quorum Litigation Services.
Ron Ercanbrack has been promoted to president of FileNET Corp. Previously, he held the position of executive vice president of sales and marketing. Prior to joining FileNET, Ercanbrack spent 19 years at IBM in sales, marketing, service delivery and manufacturing positions.
Winthrop Swenson, former deputy general counsel of the U.S. Sentencing Commission, is now a member of the professional services group at Integrity Interactive Corp. He will consult with clients in the design and implementation of Web-based compliance training.
LegalKEY Technologies Inc. has named Beth Chiaiese director of education and outreach, and Gregory Koss manager of new business development. Chiaiese previously worked at Baker Robbins & Co., where she assisted law firms with the selection and implementation of records management software, process reengineering and records, conflicts and docketing policies. Koss worked as a personal banker with FirstBank Colorado before joining LegalKEY.
Phoenix-based Corpedia has named linguist Richard Lederer to its e-learning faculty. He will offer a four-course business-writing suite for the company, which offers Web-based educational programs.
