Online Service

WORLDOX/Web Is Launched

WORLDOX has rolled out its new online document manager, WORLDOX/Web.

The document retrieval system allows lawyers to work with client documents on the go, without changing the location of the documents, which continue to reside on the firm's in-house file server, securely behind its firewall, explains the company, which is headquartered in Ridgewood, N.J.

The Windows 95/98/NT program offers password protection, encryption, and SSL protection.

Law firms choose who gets access to which documents, and thus can protect themselves and their clients from improper access, explains WORLDOX.

Remote users with proper security clearance can search for documents via the Internet, and view them through instant, formatted HTML, it says.

The system also offers a "check in, check out" function, which means that when an attorney or paralegal is working on a document, it is in "read only" status to anyone else until the user checks it back in.

The new software also permits online collaboration, says the company, without requiring purchase of software. With a browser and an authorized password, a client can access authorized files, and work with the attorneys on the documents.

WORLDOX/Web is custom-izable, and can be tailored to complement a firm's Web site, it says It integrates with Corel WordPerfect and Microsoft Office suites, says the company.

It is designed to integrate and streamline a variety of tasks, allowing lawyers to enter information once and automate common legal tasks.

WestWorks is built upon Microsoft Office 2000; Microsoft Exchange; and Elite's new TimeSolv program, reports Daitch, from West's Eagan, Minn., headquarters.

It will be used by firms to coordinate legal research, document assembly, document management, case management, time-and-billing, client management, and calendar/docket information, into a "seamless desktop," Daitch explains.
