21st Century Upgrades to 3.5

Computerized Litigation Control Systems Inc., of Trabuco Canyon, has announced the release of 21st Century Lawyer Case and Practice Management Software 3.5.

The upgrade includes integration with International Accounting Software Visual Advance 2000, an accounting package that has been redesigned to be legal-specific for small- and medium-sized firms.

It also features an enhanced interface, with a redesigned Case Management Menu (Matrix), says the company. New Visual FoxPro technology has been incorporated, and the speed has been increased, it notes.

Intellectual Property: Aspen Claims Book

Aspen Law & Business has introduced its new guide, Handbook of Intellectual Property Claims and Remedies. The single-volume treatise focuses on the substantive law governing the recovery of monetary damages; injunctive relief; and ancillary remedies in patent, copyright, trademark, trade secret and other issues.

The company also has released Intellectual Property Litigation: Pretrial Practice, Second Edition, which analyzes recent developments affecting pretrial procedures for federal cases. It contains sample documents, case summaries on new subject areas, and a discussion of the new National Patent Board, says Aspen.

Medical/Legal: Medical Illustrations

LIDO.com, of Atlanta, offers lawyers instant access to professional medical illustrations on its namesake Web site. More than 10,000 illustrations are available, and can be downloaded to both PCs or Macintosh computers, says the company. The images can be used as exhibits, or to enhance demand letters, add impact to settlement brochures, or to create demonstrative evidence, it says.

Users can search via an extensive list of medical keywords, and can access the illustrations 7/24, it says. The company also offers trial exhibit boards, custom illustrations, layout and blow-ups.

Health Care: CD Library

LEXIS Publishing has added a new Health Care Law Library to its Authority CD-ROM series. It covers analysis, cases, statutes and regulations, including full text of more than 50,000 federal health care law cases and 90 landmark state cases.

The CD also contains material on ERISA, health insurance policies, group health insurance, Medicare and Medigap insurance. The CD offers links to other LEXIS health care publications, it notes.

Mergers & Acquisitions: Best in M&A

Bowne & Co. Inc. has published The Best in M&A, a new collection of articles that analyze and offer insight into current dealmaking practices, strategies and trends in capital raising and mergers and acquisitions.

In its second edition, the book is a compilation of 41 articles written by leading legal and financial experts, from law and finance journals, legal newspapers and other publications.

White Birch Digital LLC, of Holmdel, N.J., has announced the debut of LawThreads, an online current events resource for trusts and estates lawyers. The Internet publication helps lawyers keep up with discussions that take place on estate-related e-mail listservs. It publishes reviews of selected discussion threads and links to the full text of the e-mail exchanges.

CCH Inc., of Riverwoods, Ill, has launched a new Web site featuring its banking, business, insurance and securities related products, at http://business.cch.com. It offers the complete library of CCH business offerings, including NILS Publishing, Telecommunications Reports International Inc., and Bankers Systems Inc., it says.

Tax: TimeValue Software

CCH Inc. says its payrollpenalty.com Internet tool, developed by TimeValue Software, can help determine if assessed tax penalties are too high. It applies the latest IRS-sanctioned methods to test a variety of alternative computation methods to prevent companies from overpaying.

CaseStream Alert!, from MarketSpan Inc., of Wayne, Penn., notifies attorneys e-mail alerts of newly-filed federal cases involving the issues, clients or competitors they specify. The alert is accessible via a Web browser, says MarketSpan.

Two multimedia training courses have been published by LearningAction LLC. "Sexual Harassment in the Workplace" is a 45-minute course that focuses on sexual harassment; "Preventing Workplace Harassment" addresses hostile environments and discrimination based on age, race, etc.

Information Requirements Clearinghouse, of Englewood, Colo., says the Skupsky Retention Manager is a software package that helps firms manage records, and includes full text of more than 9,000 U.S. federal and state records retention laws (with multiple index entries for complex laws). It includes more than 400 pre-defined record series and more than 40 pre-defined legal groups.
