Bowne Provides EDGAR E-Mail

Bowne & Co., has announced an e-mail service that notifies users of breaking news concerning the Security & Exchange Commission's EDGAR electronic filing system. The EDGAR II MONITOR provides registrants with news items relating to EDGAR, including new rules that have been proposed or adopted; general filing requirements; technical announcements; scheduled conferences and software upgrades, it says.

BTG International Inc. and Information Holdings Inc. have announced an agreement to jointly operate and market PATEX, which the companies describe as a new Internet exchange for the licensing of patents and technology.

PATEX will become a component of, IHI's intellectual property portal (which contains patent and trademark databases).

PatentWizard 2.0

PatentWizard 2.0 helps inventors draft patent applications and take advantage of "provisional" patent applications, reports PatentWizard Inc., of Fargo, N.D. It guides inventors through a series of steps and produces a printed PPA suitable for submission to the U.S. Patent Office. Inventors also can use the program topresent inventions to a patent attorney, it says.

GOVERNMENT is a new CD-ROM and Web tool that allows users to search Congressional, federal and judicial staff directories, reports Con-gressional Quarterly Inc. Results can be exported in a variety of formats, including Excel or ASCII (CSV or text), it advises.

Filing Manager

CT Corp. System has released Corporate Filing Manager, an online tool to help professionals quickly assemble all of the forms and order supporting documentation required to complete corporate qualification filings.

Accessible from any Internet connection, the program offers an intuitive interface, that presents a series of structured questions to the user. Once the data is entered, the system automatically generates the required state form, notes CT. It eliminates the need to reenter redundant information, reducing the time and effort needed to complete multi-jurisdictional filings, it says. The system stores answers in a secure database for use in subsequent filings, it adds.

Chicago-based Near North National Group has established CourtBondNet, a Web site where attorneys and the general public can obtain bonds for judicial proceedings, bankruptcy court, equity court and probate court.

The site includes detailed requirements for court bonds and court bond rates, to help users complete the application for a bond and purchase a bond at discounted rate. It also allows users to attach a Power of Attorney or other supporting documentation to the bond online, reports NNNG. The site was developed in conjunction with a consortium of surety partners.

TRION Technologies has expanded its Electronic Discovery Services system with the launch of E-Capture, which provides automated processing of e-mail and electronic documents directly from their native formats. E-Capture creates TIFF images and PDF output from the original electronic documents, assigns bates numbers and populates a database with coded field and full text data, the Cleveland company explains.

E-mail attachments are also captured, with retention of original relationships (and elimination of duplicates). E-Capture integrates with the line of litigation management products, as well as other litigation support systems.

ONTRACK Data International Inc. has introduced CaptureIt, a new tool that helps users engaged in electronic legal discovery capture electronic evidence.

It allows users to retrieve data and send it to Ontrack's Electronic Information Management Business Unit for processing, without removing the device from operation. (Typically, companies must remove storage devices from computer systems and ship them to Ontack for data extraction).

CaptureIt copies data from the device to a network location, where it is coded with data "signatures" to assure that the data is not tampered or contaminated. It is then transferred to a removable media (tape or CD) for processing and analysis.

Nikon Inc. has introduced AIMS PC for Windows, an upgrade of its Automated Investigation Measuring System product line. Designed for law enforcement, investigation and insurance industries, it uses the familiar Windows interface for PCs and takes data measured with Nikon instruments and data collectors, and enables users to automatically diagram accident and crime scenes in a 3D CAD file (It is also AutoCAD R14-compatible). Investigators can visit the scene and use the Nikon surveying equipment to plot all pertinent evidence items and scene features, Nikon explains. The data is then downloaded, and can be used to produce finished diagrams and images for exhibits or displays.

Pine Grove Software has debuted SolveIT! The Financial Calculator 5.0, a collection of 33 financial calculators, schedules and advisors that runs on Windows 95/98/2000/NT 4.x.

The software allows attorneys and other professionals to provide sophisticated cash flow analysis without spending hours learning the program or entering formulas, promises the Princeton, N.J., company.

The software is arranged into six groups: loans, financial projections, cash flows and schedules, depreciation, general financial planning, and "advisors" (which work akin to Microsoft "wizards.")

Business Plan Example

The American Institute of Small Business has published Business Plan Example, which can be easily set up on a word processor, it says. It includes an Executive Summary; Mission Statement; Marketing Plan; Advertising and PR Plans; Production Plan; Funding Sources; Future Products; Financial Analysis; Competitive Strengths and Weaknesses; Key Employees; Advisors; and more. It includes spread sheets for three years, including Profit and Loss; Balance Sheet and Cash Flow, says AISB.

The Business Plan Example is available in hard copy or electronic version, (WordPerfect, compatible with Microsoft Windows and Apple Macintosh).

EZcloser Corp. has introduced Secure Closing Management System, designed to help close complex transactions over the Internet. It uses encryption technology, digital signatures, and a tiered system of access codes to combine ease of appropriate access and confidentiality, it says.

CAS Expands Coverage

Chemical Abstracts Service, of Columbus, Ohio, says it is now abstracting and indexing preprints -- a new class of research report distributed on the Web in advance of (or in lieu of) formal publication. CAS will monitor preprint servers in chemistry-related fields, and begin indexing preprints posted in the year 2000. They will appear in Chemical Abstracts, CAplus and associated databases, and will be accessible through all CAS electronic search services, it says.

VisaNow helps facilitate processing of U.S. visa and immigration paperwork, for law firms, corporations and individuals, reports, Inc.

The Web-based service automates much of the non-legal document-intensive aspects of the immigration application preparation. The site also offers online "eConsultation" services, allowing users to consult with an online attorney.

According to the site, three attorneys are affiliated with VisaNow: Robert C. Meltzer (Illinois); Danielle S. Singer (Illinois); and Sonja Olds (Georgia).

Site visitors can use the free "Visa Select" service, to help determine the correct visa; and the "Visa Directory," which outlines visa categories, processing times, eligibility requirements, costs and other information.
