CaseStream Finds Cases on Dockets

MarketSpan Inc. says its new CaseStream Historical service searches and retrieves federal civil docket information, enabling litigators to study dockets and identify motions, pleadings and arguments in similar cases. Two million U.S. District Court civil dockets from 87 of the 94 federal district courts are searchable via the Internet, says MarketSpan. The company is headquartered in Wayne, Pa.

Cases can be selected based on any combination of criteria, including presiding judge, subject matter, law firm, litigant, court or time period.

CaseStreamHistorical complements MarketSpan's CaseStream, which provides information about new filings and docket activity of federal law suits, says the company.

CompuTrac Refines Internet Billing Tools

COMPUTRAC says its latest edition of CompuTrac Law Firm Management System (LFMS) for Window features enhanced Internet billing tools.

The time-and-billing software uses a standard Windows interface, and is SQL-based, it says. Using the Internet, law firms can send electronic bills to their clients, says the company, based in Richardson, Texas.

LFMS integrates with third-party software, including CompuLaw's Vision 98 docket and calendar software, advises the company.

The upgrade (version 4.1) also adds enriched accounting functionality, performance enhancements and additional reporting options, the company reports. Firms can now design cutomized pre-bill formats, and can designate automatic handling of fees based on a timekeeper or matter, it says.

Using the software, lawyers can perform simple time and cost entry narrative edits after a bill has been printed, and the software allows entry of an automatic reversing transaction when voiding a check, or editing a to-be-paid vendor invoice, explains CompuTrac.

The Management Analysis Pac module enables users to output sophisticated reports into many formats, including an Excel spreadsheet, reports CompuTrac.
