The Keyboard Is the Computer

The keyboard doubles as a PC for the Zero-Footprint-PC, from Cybernet Manufacturing Inc. Contained in the keyboard is an Intel Pentium processor, available in 400/500/533MHz. The unit also offers 32 MB SDRAM; a 4.3 GB hard drive; 10/100 MBPS Ethernet; two serial ports; one parallel port; two USB ports; floppy disk drive; speakers; and an optional 24X CD-ROM. The unit supports Microsoft Windows and Linux operating systems.

Monitors can be purchased separately or as part of a package; and the Zero-Footprint-PC is compatible with flat panel displays and SVGA monitors.

Gateway E-3400

The Gateway E-3400 desktop PC features an Intel 815 chipset and supports Windows 2000 Professional software. Buyers have a choice of Intel Pentium III processors, offering speeds of 667/733/ 800/866 and 933 MHz. The system comes standard with 128 MB SDRAM and a choice of hard drives, from 7.5 GB up to 30 GB. The E-3400 system also is available with local area network support and PCI-based network connectivity.

Digimaster 9110

The Heidelberg Digimaster 9110 Network Imaging System can print up to 110 pages per minute and supports Windows, MacIntosh and UNIX platforms. The unit, formerly known as the Kodak DigiSource, has scanning and electronic printing capabilities, says Danka Business Systems P.L.C.

It features browser-based job submissions via the World Wide Web, the company says.

The Heidelberg features 128 MB RAM, 9.1 GB hard disk drive and a 17-inch color monitor. The basic model can hold up to 4,000 sheets of paper, and the fully configured model can accommodate 8,000 The 9110 can pick up single-line pixels at 600 dots per inch.

Mita Vi7360

The Vi7360 Digital Copier/Printer can print up to 75 copies per minute and has a paper capacity of 2,150 sheets, says Kyocera Mita America Inc. The unit features unlimited stackless duplexing, finishing and saddlestitching with all position stapling. It also offers the "Scan Once, Print Many" function. Standard memory storage capacity is 64 MB, the company says.

Samsung Electronics

Samsung's Office Automation Division has released two new multi-function units:

* The SF-4700 is a color inkjet printer, copier, fax, PC fax and scanner. As a printer , it has a resolution of 1200 dots per inch, can print out nine pages per minute in black, and give pages per minute in color. Faxing capabilities include a 14.4 KPBS modem and a 30-sheet automatic document feeder.

* The Msys 5100P is a laser multi-function unit that offers a 64-shade gray level with error diffusion. It has a 20-sheet document feeder and a battery backup

As a desktop copier, the unit can zoom, collate and print up to 99 copies. Printer mode offers a resolution of 300 dots per inch and has a printing speed of six pages per minute. .

Msys 6900

The Msys 6900 has a 400-page, 5 MB memory capacity, and a seven-day memory backup system, says Samsung Electronics. It comes with a dual-tray, 500-sheet legal/letter paper capacity and a 50-page automatic document feeder.

The unit also has a 188-station auto-dialer.

Panasonic Electronics

Panasonic Consumer Electronics Co. has targeted small firms with the release of two new compact fax machines. The KX-FPC91 and the KX-FPC95 both feature a built-in 900 MHz cordless phone.

Both models offer remote fax reception from the handset, allowing users to transfer incoming fax calls to the machine with the touch of a single button.

The KX-FPC95 has a built-in digital answering machine featuring three message greetings, message transfer, a Voice/Time Day stamp and Caller ID, reports Panasonic.

It has a 14.4 Kbps modem that can process up to nine pages per minute. It offers "Voice and Fax Pager Call," which sends a message to the user's pager letting them know a fax has been received.

The KX-FPC91 has a 9.6 Kbps modem, and features "Fax Pager Call."

Plasma Displays

The new Panasonic 42-inch PT-42PD2-P and 50-inch PT-50PD2-P wide-screen displays are only 3.5 inches think and designed specifically to enhance the presentation of digital images, reports Panasonic Consumer Electronics Co

The PT-42PD2-P can display digital video as well as analog signals, and the 50-inch PT-50PD2-P is also capable of displaying High Definition media.

HDTV Projection TV

Panasonic also has released its PT-52DL10, a 52-inch rear projection HDTV set. It features Digital Light Processing technology that was developed by Texas Instruments Inc.

The PT-52DL10 is designed to deliver high-resolution images from DVD players, digital satellite receivers and DTV set-top boxes, says Panasonic Consumer Electronics Co. The unit's PC input terminal and XGA resolution display compatibility enable it to serve as an ultra-high resolution PC monitor.

Amtel Direct-Line

Amtel Direct-Line Keyboards, Panels and Wall-mount units provide instant text messaging to let users know when they have visitors, or when an important call is trying to get through.

The units provide instant, silent notification to someone who is on the phone or in a closed-door meeting.

The system runs on its own network and is independent of phone lines and the Internet, so as to provide a secure communication system, the company says. The Keyboard unit has a display for viewing messages and programmable keys that make it easy to send commonly used messages. The panel and wall-mount units provide a display and a "touch sensitive" pad with programmable keys, for those who do not like to type.

Via Video

The Polycom Via Video is a three-inch wide video camera that provides conference-quality communications through a PC. Via Video has a multimedia processor and plugs into the USB port on a computer.

It comes with Integrated Micro-soft NetMeeting for application sharing, file transfer and chatting.

It supports IP-based communications over LAN, DSL and cable networks.
